The live streaming will be available on Sony Liv.

United will go into the game having already secured a spot in the knockout phase of the competition but will be keen to pick up a victory in the hope of usurping top spot in the group from Juventus. The Italian side is travelling to Russia to play bottom-placed BSC Young Boys.

United manager Jose Mourinho has already confirmed that Paul Pogba will start in midfield and the Frenchman will be keen to prove his worth before the Liverpool game this weekend.

Mourinho has more to worry about than Pogba as he is still unsure of the availability of Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, and Anthony Martial. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez are still out injured and have not travelled with the squad.

Valencia, like United, has been struggling in their league. The Spanish side is finding it difficult to score goals and their worries have been compounded as they will miss striker Goncalo Guedes for Wednesday’ tie.

As there is nothing resting on this tie for the home side, they may not take a risk with the likes of Jeison Murillo, Gabriel and Kevin Gameiro who have been nursing minor injuries.

Left-back Jose Gaya is suspended and will miss the tie against the Manchester side.

Storylines

Manchester United: The Red Devils are thin in defense and could be without guys like Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. Luke Shaw is also doubtful this one, and if all of these guys miss out, Valencia will have more than its fair chance of winning.

Valencia: This is a team that has dealt with several injuries, and it always seems like somebody important is missing. Star attacker Goncalo Guedes has missed time due to injury and is unavailable for this match, as is striker Kevin Gameiro.

Lyon vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Head-to-head

This will be the first official head to head encounter between the two teams.

Lyon came on top when teams met in a friendly in the summer of 2014 (4-1).

Les Gones have three wins and a draw in four games against the Ukrainian opposition (including affairs against Dynamo Kyiv and Chornomorets Odessa).

Lyon vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Prediction

Shakhtar boosted up their confidence by bagging six goals in a demolishing victory over Karpaty in the domestic league on Friday. They made it 29 goals from 10 games in the top flight of the Ukrainian football. Such attacking form saw them win nine of ten matches so far. Such record is good enough to place the team four points clear off bitter rivals Dynamo Kyiv in second.

Lyon, on the other side, interrupted the three-win streak by failing to see off Nantes on Saturday evening at Groupama. The Etihad hero, Nabil Fekir, missed an 81st-minute penalty. Nevertheless, Genesio can still be more than thrilled with his side’s attacking form at the start of the season.

Les Gomes bagged seven goals in back-to-back wins over Marseille and Dijon previously. Knowing that Shakhtar have also been thriving in the final third so far in the season, we have to go with the both teams to score as a banker bet here.

Head to Head

In the three previous meetings between these sides, Benfica have walked away with victory in two of those.

Ajax Amsterdam vs Bayern Munich

When these two teams last met, an incredible performance from Manuel Neuer was the only thing that kept the Dutchmen from running riot. Now, Ajax stand in the way of the Bavarians and a spot at the top of the group.

Niko Kovac isn’t going to pull his punches for this one. Even though Corentin Tolisso, James Rodriguez, and Arjen Robben are all injured, we likely wouldn’t have seen them play anyway. The coach has said that he intends to field the exact same lineup as the one that beat Bremen and Nurnberg, with maybe a change or two here and there. The changes could mean that Kingsley Coman or Thiago Alcantara get to play, but don’t expect stalwarts like Thomas Muller or Robert Lewandowski to ride the bench.

This game is important for Bayern, in more ways than one. Since Benfica, the criticism has been that Bayern’s newfound form has coincided with a run of easy games against weak teams. If Niko Kovac can pull off a result against Ajax, those criticisms will disappear. However, if he fails, then it’s likely that talks of a crisis will once again return to the Bavarian capital. For the sake of the team, we hope that doesn’t come to pass.

It’s Bayern time.

CSKA Moscow vs Real Madrid

Santi Solari’s side will also be after a degree of revenge, having lost 1-0 to the Russians back in October in one of the upsets of the tournament thus far.

CSKA failed to build on that victory, however, and have already been eliminated. Meanwhile, a shock loss to Viktoria Plzen two weeks ago means they have to take something from Spain to stand a chance of playing in the Europa League in the spring.

Match Preview

A second-minute goal from Nikola Vlasic gave CSKA Moscow a stunning 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in October, and though that effort propelled the three-time defending Champions League winners into a state of crisis, they have now come out the other side.

Head coach Julen Lopetegui was a high-profile casualty, but the Spaniards are looking as strong as ever under new boss Santi Solari, who has overseen eight victories in nine matches.

Sunday’s 1-0 win over Huesca may have been described as “ugly” by Solari, but he praised his players for coming through a tricky “test of character”.

With Los Blancos’ Club World Cup campaign to start in a week in the UAE and a vital league match against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, this dead rubber is unlikely to be top of the coach’s agenda.

Due to Madrid’s head-to-head advantage over Roma, their 12 points will be sufficient to seal top spot in the group regardless of what happens at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, but this is a team playing with renewed pride nevertheless.

CSKA, meanwhile, can focus their full attention on this encounter before Russian football shuts down for the winter, beginning again only in March.

Although Viktor Goncharenko’s side beat bottom side Yenisey 2-1 on Saturday, the performance level was poor, and only a missed penalty from their opponents prevented an embarrassing loss of points.

A positive result at the Bernabeu would quickly render that forgotten, however.
